At Arise we believe that every child is created to be a part of a thriving family. Compelled by this conviction, we dream of seeing every children’s home emptied and kept empty. From our family centre in Heideveld on the Cape Flats, we encourage adoption and foster care across the greater Cape Town area on behalf of children who are living in institutional care, and we serve families in resource-poor communities with psychosocial, educational and spiritual support.
Arise is the unfolding result of years of praying and dreaming about how best to serve children and empower families. Officially founded in 2008, the beginning of the Arise story goes back to the passion of a group of Claremont-area churches to see a holistic Christian response to children living without families. From working with children living on the streets of Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs to our move to the heart of the Cape Flats in 2010 and the creation of our Family Centre model, our desire has always been to see every child being raised in a thriving family environment, build relationships with local families and provide individuals and groups with professional educational, developmental and therapeutic services.
“When I was growing up, I hated the kind of parent my mother was and I wanted to be a different kind of parent
to my daughter. Now I know what to do, and I’ve seen the difference in my daughter.
Maybe God sent you here just to teach me how to be a great parent.”
